Maybe you could replace the bricks with milk crates. Not quite so stylin', but lighter and also useful for carting around all the junk you want to put on said shelves. Of course, this requires ahem, "acquiring" milk crates...

I did the bricks and boards thing for several years...very handy and now the boards and bricks have been made into a very sturdy bedframe (sturdy is essential). One recommendation...milk crates are excellent for moving said bricks...but like Steph pointed out...you may need a source....

I like milk crates, but I already hauled my bricks to Edmonton! The old-school brick'n'board shelves go very nicely with the fake fireplace. I am short a bedframe, though... hmmmm, maybe the next load of bricks can go to that cause! Essential indeed.
